40th Birthday Party Decorations

Early last year I was approached by my wonderful sister-in-law who asked me if I could help her decorate for her best friends surprise 40th birthday party. I (of course) jumped to it because my boyfriend had just gotten me a Cricut that was begging for a project, and there’s nothing I love more than cruising Pinterest looking for new ideas. I quickly had a board made up of inspiration I found based on the colours she gave me, and any other elements she had planned.

The birthday girl’s favourite colours are dark purple and teal. Besides the birthday banner, centerpieces, and cupcake toppers, there were some really awesome unique items requested for the party. Make sure you keep reading to see how the party came together! (The blue squares on the chalkboard sign are just blocking identifying details.)

Wine glass – I created a vinyl decal with my Cricut that says Forty & Fabulous. I love the colour and the font!!

Kiss Me I’m 40 Sticker – This was my first time using print and cut and printable sticker paper. I think it turned out pretty awesome! She wore it for the party and put to the bar later on.

Wine Bottle Guestbook – This was such a cool idea my SIL found. I painted a wine bottle with chalkboard paint and wrote the wording on. Then all the guests signed their names on the bottle for a keepsake guest book type thing that she could keep!

Birthday board – Another special request was for a chalk birthday board commemorating 1977. I had never attempted one before but I love the style and couldn’t wait to try. I’ll do a post in the future about how I do these boards, along with any tips and tricks I’ve learnt since doing a couple more.

Photo props – Another special request, when my Sil and her friend were younger they were big fans of Beavis and Butthead. She asked me if there was a way to make some photo booth props with their faces. They turned out great and were a hit!

For the centerpieces I made paper flowers for the first time to create small bouquets for the tables. I love the flowers so much, and although I haven’t made more yet, I’ve been gathering lots of inspiration for craft projects to do with them in the future!

All in all the party decorations turned out pretty great, and we and a lot of fun making them. To see the full gallery of photos of what I made click here. I love decorating for parties and being able to make custom decorations to match any colours or theme with my Cricut has been awesome!

Do you have a Cricut? What’s your favorite thing to make with it?
