A couple of weeks ago we celebrated my daughter’s 4th birthday. She was born in mid-July, right on her due date. Sometimes I find it hard to believe my sweet little dolly is now a sassy 4 year old who loves unicorns and her tool bench!
This was also a bittersweet birthday as she was born on my Grandma’s 85th birthday, and she passed away a couple months ago making this the first birthday they didn’t celebrate together.
My daughter had a hard time deciding what the theme of her birthday party was going to be this year. She wanted them all! But finally one day she saw this unicorn piñata at the store and she knew. All we heard about for weeks was that unicorn piñata.
So I did what I do best and I got on Pinterest and started looking for DIY unicorn birthday party ideas. As usual, Pinterest did not disappoint! I started pinning my inspiration and the party started to take shape in my mind. To find ideas for your own unicorn party follow my Pinterest board here:
Our local party store had some awesome unicorn party supplies and I was able to pick up unicorn themed plates, cups, napkins, and tablecloths! And they are mainly purple, which is my daughter’s current favourite colour, so that worked out well! The same set is also available on amazon here.
Unicorn Birthday Banner
From there I designed a simple birthday banner using this awesome free unicorn SVG. I matched my cardstock colours to the tablecloth to go for a more cohesive look. To glitter the letters all I did was spray them with spray adhesive and pour my glitter on. It was my first time trying glitter and spray adhesive and I was pleasantly surprised with how well it actually kept the glitter on!
Unicorn Frame & Cupcake Toppers
To make the cupcake toppers I found a simple unicorn silhouette and cut as many as I needed out with my Cricut. I also created a 4 for the top of the cupcake tower. After using my hot glue gun to attach tooth picks to the unicorn toppers (and a kebob stick cut in half for the 4) I then used the spray adhesive again to make them all glittery.
I also used the same unicorn SVG and some foam board and artificial flowers I had laying around to create a selfie frame. We suspended it from a tree and the kids had fun using the photo props to take silly pictures.
Unicorn Masks & Ribbon Wands
In addition to the piñata that got this party started, there was also a pin the horn on the unicorn game at the store. I found these adorable colouring unicorn masks online for the kids to colour. I got the free printable from this awesome blog here. All I did was print them out on white card stock (to make them a little sturdier) and had my 8 year old cut them out for me. For a fun party favour I made some wands with a cloud shape glued to wooden sticks, and bright coloured gift ribbons taped to the back!
All of the kids looked super cute running around in their coloured unicorn masks and their ribbon wands. They were a big hit, especially with the little ones!
Unicorn Marshmallow Squares
Lucky Charms cereal currently has unicorn shaped marshmallows in it, so I followed a recipe I found on this great blog to make these delicious marshmallow squares. They were so gooey and delicious that the kids have been begging for more to be made. I also pinned some really cute ideas to create rainbow coloured fruit and vegetable trays, but we decided to just keep the food choices simple since the party was right after lunch.
Making all the decorations for this unicorn party was so much fun, and came together really easily!
